Sugar in fruit

Slimming diets have made the fruit badly known for some time now. It is increasingly being said that since they contain a lot of sugar, they have to be fattening. Unfavourable opinions are also expressed about different types of fruit. Is there anything to worry about? It turns out that nothing is as unambiguous as we might think. Often only the dose separates the medicine from the poison and it is no different in the case of fruits.

Straight sugars

People who advise us to be careful when eating fruits pay attention to the fact that they contain simple sugars. It is hardly surprising that they are badly known. They are responsible for the leaching of calcium from bones, they can also weaken our immune system and have an addictive effect. They also have an effect on leptin, which is the hormone that regulates appetite. Their consumption makes the body constantly suggest to us that it needs food, preferably sweets.

Sugar and fruit

Does this mean, however, that if the fruit has simple sugars, we should give them up as we give up sweets? Fortunately, it doesn't have to be like this. Reaching for a bar is about sugar and other harmful substances. However, fruit not only provides us with sugars, but also vitamins, enzymes, minerals and a number of other substances beneficial for our health.

Fructose seems to have an impact on the bad reputation of the fruit, even though for some time it was even promoted as a substitute for classic sugar. It is not healthy, and if we deliver it to the body in excess, we not only burden the liver, but also increase the risk of abdominal obesity. However, when it is in the fruit, its action is effectively suppressed by both micronutrients and fiber.

What do the fruits contain?

How often do I eat fruit?

The answer to the question of whether fruit can be eaten with impunity is not easy. Ideally, if we remember about moderation, especially that the diet should be varied and not fruit, but vegetables, are considered to be the ingredient that is supposed to dominate it. It is assumed that the optimal fruit dose during the day is 400 grams. What's more, if possible, it's best to eat them until noon. It is often recommended to eat five portions, but these do not have to be large portions. One of them may be at least a handful of strawberries. If we have problems with keeping sugar at the right level, let us first of all choose those fruits that have a low glycemic index.

Fruit and calories

As a rule, fruits are not calorific. Even if we came up with the idea of eating a kilo of raspberries, we would only provide our body with 320 calories. If we take into account the fact that there are as many as 300 calories in one donut, and they are worthless, we will have to admit that this is not too much.

Eating fruit does not interfere with our efforts, even if we are on a diet, although in the latter case abstinence is recommended. We should not exaggerate with the calorific value of meals, so it is worth taking care of a variety of sources, from which we supply the body with even protein and fats. Dietary diets based only on sugars are usually not very effective.
