active senior citizens

It is said that youth is governed by its own rules. That this is when we are most active and we can do everything. And what about the mature stage of life? Yes, health may not be as good as it was during school or university, but that does not mean that you have to stop working. On the contrary. Seniors, on the other hand, have many opportunities to be active: mentally and physically.

What can be done to continue to function dynamically in the autumn of life and not to succumb to age-related limitations? Here are a few ways to give your seniors a chance to live life to the fullest.

Mind still active

The brain works a bit like a muscle. Without proper stimulation, its effect is weakened. It is often the case that people who retire and suddenly move from an active lifestyle associated with work to a period of stagnation. And you don't need a lot of exercise to get the brain to get the right amount of exercise. All you need to do is turn television into other forms of entertainment. Instead of a series - a chapter of a book or a few crosswords or sudoku. It's so little and so much at the same time.

We learn all our lives

Who said that the school is reserved for young people only? Quite the contrary! Recently, like mushrooms after the rain, more universities of the third century have been created. These are educational institutions, most often opened at universities, intended for "students" of mature age. Their listeners are seniors who want to deepen their knowledge in many fields. The lectures concern e.g. health, history, law, but also science or foreign languages. Participation in classes is also an excellent opportunity to make new friendships and inspiring entertainment.

Active senior exercise

Intellectual activity is not everything. Also important is the one related to the body. Although it must be admitted that few seniors will be able to perform a twine or overturn after 70 or 80, stretching, blood circulation improvement or muscle strengthening exercises are highly recommended. Today, it is becoming easier and easier to find physical activities for people in the autumn of their lives. Led by a professional trainer, they guarantee that no injuries will occur during subsequent exercises. The offer of sports activities for seniors can be found, among others, in cultural centres.

To break down barriers....

The most common problem that discourages seniors from engaging in physical activity is mobility problems. Pain, balance problems and other health problems can, however, be minimised - for example, by using appropriate mobility aids. An orthopaedic stick, crutches or walker are accessories that can allow the seniors to go out on their own (or in company) for a longer walk, without worrying about losing balance or falling over. And even if walks were to be the only form of activity, it is worth making it possible. As today in good shops with accessories dedicated to the elderly and disabled you can find a wide range of various accessories, adapted to the specificity of mobility problems, without difficulty you can buy the support that the elderly needs.

Activity has more than one name. It is therefore worth breaking the limits, also in the autumn of the centuries, and drawing from life as much as possible.
