Advertisements for dietary supplements are appearing in the media in increasing quantities and promise consumers to achieve rapid results, such as losing extra pounds, for example. But should we really rely on and trust dietary supplements?
- Dietary supplements are not medicines, dietary supplements are foodstuffs, they are simply food. Therefore, they will certainly not cure all the diseases we suffer from, they will not heal us and there are no remedies for all the ailments - explains newsrm.tv Agnieszka Majchrzak from the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection. It should be remembered that advertisements for dietary supplements should not mislead consumers and should not attribute to themselves the properties of medicines, in other words, simply say that they are medicinal products.
As Agnieszka Majchrzak says, supplements are targeted at a specific group of consumers, i.e. sensitive consumers who often suffer from various types of diseases. In addition to the medications prescribed by the doctor, such people often want to be treated on their own and choose supplements that they know only from advertisements. Unfortunately, they can often turn out to be harmful to the body, because every person is different and needs different nutrients.
