The effectiveness of sperm fertilization of an egg cell is influenced by many factors. Pregnancy can hinder, among other things, abnormalities in the construction of the uterus. Women who have unsuccessfully tried to get pregnant or are preparing for maternity can do a hysteroscopy test, which not only allows for the diagnosis of changes, but also for their treatment if necessary.
Hysteroscopy is called viewing of the uterus. This examination is performed under ambulatory conditions with the use of a special optical device - a hysteroscope. The procedure enables precise and more reliable observation of the cervical canal and the interior of the uterus and, if necessary, removal of lesions or collection of mucosal fragments for histopathological examination than by ultrasound.

The main recommendation before the planned hysteroscopy is to perform vaginal and cervical culture, it is also worth doing basic blood tests. If there are indications to perform the procedure under general anaesthesia, an anaesthetic consultation and ECG examination will be necessary.
In the diagnosis of infertility, hysteroscopy should be performed in the first phase of the menstrual cycle, just after the end of monthly bleeding. Before the procedure, the patient should refrain from urinating for at least 1.5 to 2 hours and report to the clinic no later than 6 hours before the planned procedure. It must be fasting.
The procedure lasts no longer than a dozen or so minutes and the patient is lying on a gynaecological chair. The gynaecologist inserts the optical path of the hysteroscope through the vagina into the cervix and then into the uterine cavity, simultaneously analyzing the image on the monitor. If necessary, the investigator shall take excerpts of abnormal mucosa for histopathological examination.
In good hysteroscopy clinics, a Bethi Hysteroscope with a diameter of only 2 mm is used for hysteroscopy, so that the examination can be performed without anaesthesia. Its results are available immediately.
