Every health problem affecting a child is a cause for many worries for parents. Especially if they are associated with serious ailments, such as fever and very frequent vomiting of the infant, which causes dehydration. The best way is to consult your paediatrician as soon as possible and take appropriate treatment. However, it is also worth having the knowledge necessary to cope with such difficult situations.
First of all, the cause of the problem must be found. Unfortunately, a small child is not able to explain what is happening to him/her, so during the first months of life, it is the parents who have to learn how to communicate with him/her and act according to individually developed models. In case of severe pain, high temperature or related vomiting in a baby - every moment counts. So it is worth knowing where the problem may lie. Vomiting is a discomfort caused by several factors. These include: food poisoning, allergy or intolerance of certain nutrients, indigestion or overeating, prolonged crying or severe coughing, reflux, gastrointestinal infections, locomotive disease, brain shock, appendicitis.... These are just a few situations in which vomiting often occurs. Some of them can be remedied, e.g. by modifying the mother's diet (if she is breastfeeding), as well as the baby's diet (if she already eats products other than breast milk only) or by changing the way she is fed. In case of disease symptoms, such actions may not be sufficient and it may be necessary to consult a specialist.
Parents should remember that in all situations it is important to keep calm in order to be able to assess it rationally and start acting. In the case of single vomiting in a baby there is no reason to be worried - it is usually a temporary reaction of the body. Slightly more dangerous is the situation when, in addition to vomiting, diarrhoea and fever appear, and this condition lasts for several consecutive days. This can quickly lead to dehydration, which seriously weakens the already fragile and exhausted child's body. It is important to ensure that the child consumes the right amounts of water and the electrolytes needed to return to full performance. Strong and frequent vomiting, due to large amounts of gastric acids, also adversely affects the digestive system, including the esophagus, throat and oral cavity - cause pain, burning, discomfort, and sometimes even ulceration of the throat walls. This is a condition that requires medical consultation! These are some of the symptoms that cannot be ignored under any circumstances!
