In the winter season we set off massively to the mountains to indulge in the pleasures of skiing or boarding. We pack all the equipment, a pile of thermoactive underwear, overalls and other necessary clothes. Ski trips are usually not very long, but intensive. So you need to be well prepared for them, so that you don't waste time on the spot for shopping or insurance. And what if during a white madness we get menstruation? Is it also possible to prepare for this in advance? Fortunately, yes.
- Pack the first-aid kit well. There must be an analgesic, which starts to act quickly. A drug with decsketoprofen, e.g. in the form of a granulate for preparation of an oral solution with a lemon flavour, is a good solution. In case of acute pain, when faster action is needed, it is recommended to take the drug on an empty stomach, which will cause faster absorption of the drug.
- Remember about hygienic articles. Tampons and menstrual cups are better suited for active relaxation than wristbands. They do not move or restrict movement. Unfortunately, replacing a tampon in the ski resort's tight toilet, when we wear 5 layers of warm clothing, can cause some difficulties. That's why it's a good idea to take your armband for a change. Do not forget that before and after the replacement of a hygienic article, wash your hands thoroughly. Soap is not always available in public toilets, so you should carry an antibacterial hand gel or soap flakes in small, compact packages.
- Adapt your efforts to your abilities. Some women feel weakened during the first days of menstruation. If you belong to this group, don't be forced to be active all day long on the slope. On the other hand, ladies who feel good do not have to give up on the white madness. Light or moderate exercise has a beneficial effect, relaxes and relieves pain.
- Avoid bloating foods. On the slope we are often tempted by hot bigos or peas. These dishes really warm up and add energy. On the other hand, they cause increased production of gases in the gastrointestinal tract. This can aggravate the discomfort associated with menstrual pain.
- Do not exaggerate with alcohol. Generally, regardless of the phase of the cycle, excess alcohol is not advisable. During menstruation we are additionally afraid of the interaction of analgesics with ethanol - increased bleeding or kidney dysfunction.
Or maybe you can postpone your period?
This solution is possible, but should only be used in exceptional situations and only under strict medical supervision. If menstruation is not a big problem for us and does not drastically reduce our mood, we should not decide to interfere with hormonal drugs in our cycle. In order to postpone menstruation, you should go to a gynaecologist even 2-3 months before the planned departure. After consultation, your doctor will choose the right hormonal drugs and explain to you how to take them to avoid menstruation during your winter holiday. Remember that you should never borrow hormonal drugs from your friends. Each of us is different. What can help someone, can harm you.
