The popularity of golf in Poland is growing. More and more people are finding out that this discipline is not just for the elite. Women are also more and more interested in golf. The 9th Dr Irena Eris Ladies' Golf Cup tournament is attended by a record number of participants - more than a hundred ladies will take part in the tournament. The cast is international.
Approximately 150 million people all over the world play golf. In Poland it is still a relatively young sport discipline. The first golf course in the post-war history of Poland was established only 21 years ago, and 10 years ago for the first time a national team was appointed. Currently, golf is played by about 10-15 thousand Poles, mainly men, but the number of players is growing dynamically.
- Golf is a sport for everyone. It takes some time, but it is time spent in a very healthy and pleasant way. This discipline practises cooperation with others, practises such character traits as perseverance, accuracy or strategy," says Dr Irena Eris, news agency Newseria.
Every year more and more people find out that this sport is an interesting form of spending their free time. There are also more and more opportunities to practice this sport - new golf courses and clubs are being created. Currently there are 60 golf clubs and 20 full-length courses in Poland.
- This is not just a sport, but a way of life at all. This is a beautiful terrain and a huge challenge for the competitor. People who look at golf say: "What kind of sport is it, gentlemen go and ask each other with a stick". Nothing more wrong. This is a very technically difficult sport that triggers great emotions - says Marek Michałowski, President of the Polish Golf Association.
Contrary to popular belief, golf is not a sport for the rich. Especially at the beginning it doesn't require a lot of money: you only need sports clothes and a few lessons with a trainer. After reaching a higher level, the golfer will have to spend several hundred zlotys on a set of clubs and professional shoes.
- The more we talk about it, the more we encourage people, the more they will find out that golf is for everyone. For the young and the elderly, for those more physically fit and less, for men and for women," says Irena Eris.
The fact that golf is becoming more and more popular in Poland is also confirmed by the growing number of prestigious tournaments. They include the Dr Irena Eris Ladies' Golf Cup tournament, which will be held for the ninth time. This year, a record number of participants entered the tournament - on May 18 and 19 about 100 women golfers from Poland, Austria, Germany, Great Britain, Slovakia, Belgium, Finland, Canada and the United States will take part in the competition. Participants of the event will fight for points in the general classification of the Polish Golf Association, cups designed by Yes and material prizes funded by Deutsche Bank, Chervo, Audi. At the tournament you will be able to win the only 9-litre bottle of Perrier-Jouët champagne in this part of Europe.
- It turns out that there is a demand for this type of entertainment. This event enjoys success, because it is not only a game itself, but also an opportunity to relax, take care of body and soul, spend time in a cosmetic institute, also spend time with each other, talk to each other. And this works, women come to us in increasing numbers. The champion of our tournament is spreading and finds supporters," says Dr Irena Eris.
9th Dr Irena Eris Ladies' Golf Cup tournament will be held on the Sand Valley golf course in Pasłęk, near Elbląg.
