Stem cells for the treatment of eye diseasesThe last period has been a time when modern research is being carried out in the United States on the fight against vision disorders. It turns out that research is being carried out on Stargardt's disease, which can affect up to 30 thousand people. Researchers assume, however, that if positive results are achieved, it is possible that treatment will also be effective in the case of macular degeneration, and this is already a problem that affects millions of people around the world.

cellphoneThe research is carried out by experienced scientists who have prepared a fairly modern method. It turns out that they expect that injecting retinal cells into the eye will guarantee the treatment of vision defects. Cells are to be taken from the human embryo, which is at an early stage of development more precisely when it consists of eight cells. For obvious reasons, such a method arouses considerable controversy. However, it should be noted that it was admitted to the study.

Initially, of course, researchers try to identify the appropriate doses, so everything is carried out on animals. In this way it has been estimated that such a method can not only stop the development of the disease, but it turned out that it is also 100% able to improve visual aptitude.

What is also very important, there will be no unpleasant side effects. During the treatment, everything should be based on the fact that new epithelial cells will form in the eye. As a result, the fight against those cells that are pathological and cause unpleasant visual problems is to take place effectively. Vision in the case of these diseases becomes blurred at first and may still lead to a loss of vision. The use of stem cells must guarantee the use of a method by which these problems can be overcome. Currently, a similar method of treatment is also being tested on a person who has suffered some kind of spinal cord injury and it is assumed that this time too it will be possible to expect proper efficacy.

Skin stem cells rebuild the lens of the eye

It turns out that researchers from America can already congratulate themselves, because thanks to the introduced methods they managed to rebuild the lens in the patient's eye, which was damaged. The stem cells that were taken from the skin were used for this process. It is a great hope for the blind all over the world. Volleyball diseases such as AMD and other problems related to retinal degeneration are particularly troublesome, but it seems that in the end it will be possible to overcome them using this modern method.

To begin with, the researchers decided to use skin cells for research, which were taken from laboratory mice. This was chosen primarily because it gave the possibility to track how the cells will behave in the eye. Everything was thoroughly prepared in the laboratory for a period of about a month, so that these cells could be turned into stem cells. The cells that were obtained were then transplanted into the damaged lens.

It turns out that the results exceeded the expectations of researchers. Within a few weeks mouse cells were able to take over the functions of the cells that should be in the lens and led to the cavities being replenished. In order to confirm this, the researchers have tried to carry out many more tests. It was possible to achieve a flawless result and thanks to that researchers talk about a breakthrough. It is possible that this method will be able to restore sight to many people who have various retinal diseases.
